About Bar Therapy

Associated with the Tuckey family, historical Tuckey House has been significant in the development of the Mandurah community, building the Brighton Hotel and other facilities, and being successful farmers, shermen, transporters, retailers and timber millers.

Built as a residence in 1928, opposite the Tuckeys’ Brighton Hotel, next door to Tuckey’s Store and on part of the site of the Tuckey-owned Peel Inlet Preserving Works. The grand nature of the home provided visual interest on the foreshore and the completion of Tuckey House was a symbol of the success of the Tuckey family.

Tuckey house aka Bar Therapy is also home to Local hero “Slim Jim”, a cotton palm tree. This cotton palm is located in the waterfront gardens of Tuckey House. The tree is over 70 years old and was probably planted at around the same time as the residence was built in 1928. It reaches a height of over 40 metres and was once - and may still be - the tallest palm of its type in the southern hemisphere.
